POWAR began as a question for farmers: how to test today the climate their fields will have tomorrow. That same question, taken into the classroom, is what gives meaning to everything we do today: students measuring their own climate and understanding it with real data.

During the Master in Design for Emergent Futures (IaaC and Elisava), Pablo Zuloaga asks himself how to help smallholder farmers prepare for the climate to come. That is how POWAR was born: Plant Observatory of Weather Adaptability for Resilience.
At IaaC and Fab Lab Barcelona the first box is built: it downloads the live weather of any city and recreates it inside, to see how a plant would grow in another climate.
With the support of the Diputació de Barcelona and Rupit Town Council, a second prototype is built, designed for rural areas.
The third simulator prototype arrives, with its own board and a web platform to choose the climate. Alongside it, the first version of the P-Bit is born: a small environmental computer for measuring in the classroom.
The P-Bit v2 is designed together with teachers and tested in three schools. And POWAR goes out to show what it does:
The team comes together and the P-Bit v3 reaches schools: students in Spain and Croatia use it in real projects, such as the mushroom-growing project at Escola Joan Miró.
POWAR STEAM is incorporated as a company. We train teachers and work with students in Croatia within an Erasmus+ project, and prepare the school pilot of the new simulator version.
